Basic Shotgun

The Basics of Shotgun Shooting course prepares students to own and/or use a shotgun safely by introducing the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes.  The course is taught over two sessions.

Course Description

The classroom portion of the course teaches:

  • Safety aspects of using and handling a shotgun
  • Different types of shotguns
  • Parts of a shotgun
  • Components of a cartridge
  • Malfunctions
  • Fundamentals of shotgun shooting
  • Range commands
  • Shooting positions
  • Cleaning and care of a shotgun

Practical application is a two to three-hour session at a safe, established shooting range using live-fire exercises during which students will practice the basic shooting fundamentals they just learned. The concentration for this course is being able to shoot at clay pigeons.

Course Requirements

Students must not have been convicted of a felony. Minor students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Cost

$150 (Includes all student materials and range fees. Cost of ammunition is not included.)
