Basic Rifle

There is more to shooting a rifle than just picking up the gun and pulling the trigger. The Basics of Rifle Shooting course prepares students to own and/or use a rifle safely by introducing the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes.  The course is taught over two sessions.

Course Description

The classroom portion of the course teaches:

  • Safety aspects of using and handling a rifle
  • Different types of rifles
  • Parts of a rifle
  • Components of a cartridge
  • Malfunctions
  • Fundamentals of rifle shooting
  • Range commands
  • Shooting positions
  • Cleaning and care of a rifle

Practical application is a two to three hour session at a safe, established shooting range using live-fire exercises during which students will practice the basic shooting fundamentals they just learned.

Course Requirements

Students must not have been convicted of a felony. Minor students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Cost

$150 (Includes all student materials and range fees. Cost of ammunition is not included.)
