Yes, the Basic Pistol Course satisfies the training requirement for a concealed carry permit in Colorado. Current law in Colorado does not accept Basic Pistol Courses that include online portions of the course.
Falcon Personal Security teaches a complete in-classroom Basic Pistol Course. This class brings an added dimension of an extensive discussion of Colorado laws pertaining to owning, transporting, and using firearms with an emphasis on the Make-My-Day law and the law governing self-defense and defense of another.
We can take six students in the Basic Pistol Course and eight in the protection classes. The reason for class size is the individual attention given to students. We may have expert shooters in the class along with novices. Our classes are geared to the student’s level of experience. One way to enhance the ability of the expert is to involve that person in the training of the novice. That way the novice is not given just one point of view. This also encourages close cooperation between the instructor and the expert student.
Many of our students have not yet purchased a gun when they take basic classes. This is not a bad idea. During the class we discuss the many considerations necessary to a prospective gun buyer. The new gun user/buyer needs to take into consideration such things as the fit of the gun in the hand and the amount of recoil. For some students, manipulation of a semi-automatic pistol is too difficult and complicated. We explore all of these considerations to assist the students in selecting just the right gun for their intended use.
It is necessary for students to own a gun for the personal protection classes. In addition to approximately eight hours of classroom training (normally two evenings) there is extensive range work to get the students familiar with their gun in a stressful situation.
In the Basic Pistol Class we have had a lot of success in teaching novices to shoot. It is not uncommon for someone who was fearful of guns to come out of the class with a new-found enthusiasm. The key is to receive the correct training so that you can continue shooting using the correct positions, hold, sight picture, and recoil control on a consistent basis.
We have also had numerous students who own guns that they do not know how to shoot. We work with these students to solve that problem. The personal protection and advanced shooting classes expand on the Basic Pistol Course in refining and honing the students’ shooting abilities.
